The base engine, which is on most of the models is the 1.8-liter inline four-cylinder engine that offers you 132 horsepower and 128 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine doesn’t sound powerful, but it’s right in line with other engines for the compact sedan market. This version is attached to a six-speed manual transmission for the SE model and a CVT automatic for the L, LE and S. The fuel mileage comes in at 27 city/35 hwy on the SE and 28 city/36 hwy mpg on the others with the CVT automatic.

The second engine is actually the same one, just tuned up a bit. Interestingly, this version does give you more power, but the goal was to receive more fuel mileage, which you also receive. The power is pushed up to 140 horsepower and 126 lb.-ft. of torque for the Le Eco. This engine is mated to a similar CVT automatic transmission and is capable of bringing you 30 city/40 hwy mpg to give you the fuel mileage you want to enjoy when you have a long commute to and from your job every day.

When you shop the base model of the Corolla, the L model, you will have LED headlights, a rearview camera with path projection, air conditioning, cruise control, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel that has audio and Bluetooth controls integrated, a USB port, a 6.1-inch touchscreen display audio system, the Toyota Entune multimedia system, Siri Eyes Free and a six-way adjustable driver’s seat. This gives you a great place to start from and even allows you to have some of the features you want to enjoy when your budget has you shopping at the L model.

Upgrading the Corolla to the LE model adds automatic climate controls, a multi information display that sits between the gauges for you to make use of and upgraded interior trim items. The XLE and XSE add the faux leather upholstery, an eight-way power driver’s seat, upgraded instruments, a color MID, push button starting, keyless entry and much more. The SE can be had with the manual transmission if you want to shift your own gears and the SE offers you the color MID to make it a bit of an upgrade over the LE models. The 50th Anniversary edition of the Corolla has a standard seven-inch infotainment system that can be upgraded to include navigation.
