Kia unveiled the new 2016 Kia Optima at the New York Auto Show last week. The 2016 Optima is the fourth generation for the model and touts slightly taller, longer and wider dimensions than its predecessors. It will offer drivers a new engine and transmission as well as two engines that were available on previous models. Optima is one of the best selling models for Kia, and the 2016 version is sure to please.
The new engine for the 2016 Optima is the 1.6 liter four-cylinder turbo, which is offered on the LX model. The 2.4 liter GDI four-cylinder will be offered on the LX and EX models, and the 2.0 liter GDI turbo engine will be offered on the SXL and SX Turbo models. Also new to the Optima for 2016 is the seven speed DCT transmission.
On the exterior of Optima is the updated Tiger Nose corporate grille, new headlights, and elongated taillights. New technology for the 2016 model includes: QuantumLogic Surround Sound Stereo with six speakers, and optional Infinity Premium Audio System sporting fourteen speakers. Indianapolis Kia tells us to expect a quieter driving experience with less road noise and vibrations when you step behind the wheel of the new Optima.
The UVO infotainment system will be available on the 2016 Optima, and will offer Android Auto and Apple’s CarPlay, which can connect to your smartphone. Available features that come with the Android Auto and CarPlay include: music, messaging, navigation, and phone calls, which can be interacted with by voice commands, and buttons on the steering wheel as well as the UVO touchscreen.
Optima will also offer parental controls like geo-fencing (limiting where kids can drive,) curfew alert, and driving score, making teen driving safer than ever. This new midsize sedan has much to offer to drivers who want a vehicle packed full of technology at an affordable price. The 2016 Optima is expected to go onsale to the public in late 2015.
