Corvette Z06 vs. GT-R Nismo

Corvette

Pitting these two amazing high performance speed machines together and testing them as a comparison seems more like an excuse to have a great time on and off the track (which I’m sure it was) than anything else. Regardless of that, these two amazing performance machines were put to the test together to come out blazing with performance numbers that would make most have a hard time choosing between either car as to what they might enjoy regarding power, performance, and an overall satisfaction of being king of the road or track.

Setting the stage, the Nissan GT-R Nismo is the top end of power and performance from Nissan and is powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine that pumps out 600 horsepower and 481 lb.-ft. of torque. This car is lighter than the Corvette and has a shorter wheelbase which makes for excellent acceleration.

The Corvette Z06 on the other hand has an engine you would expect to power one of the premier American sports cars. This engine is a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that spits out 650 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque. As the heavier of the two the Corvette isn’t as fast on the acceleration but showed many other performance numbers that make for an amazing run.

On the track, a figure-eight style, the two were tested and the GT-R was the faster to hit sixty mph reaching this speed in just 2.9 seconds. The Corvette on the other hand was only a bit slower to get there in 3.3 seconds. Once the GT-R took the acceleration prize, the rest of the track test belonged to the Corvette which had a shorter braking distance, higher average lateral Gs and a faster time on the figure-eight track where the testing was performed. This added performance was partly due to the Z07 package that was present on the car which meant it had ceramic brakes and several aerodynamic components.

Heading out to the road the two cars could not have been much different from each other. The GT-R offered a fantastic thrust out of corner but did not have the exhaust or engaging drive that would have made it a favorite on the road. The Corvette was a bit more difficult to drive but has the most engaging driving experience with its rear-wheel drive and manual transmission on board to make the drive one that fully takes place by the driver.

After the two comparisons were made, the clear winner was the Corvette Z06. The driving overall was better and the control features allowed much better on track performance and on road manners. This car has long been one that has turned heads and filled hearts of Americans with joy and the desire to feel the adrenaline that comes from driving a high-performance sports car. Even though the GT-R Nismo was left behind in this match up, it’s one amazing car with some fantastic acceleration and easy cornering on the road to make it a worthy competitor of just about any sports car.
