Drivers interested in all-electric or hybrid-electric vehicles can check out the 2024 Honda EV lineup breakdown below before heading to the dealership.
This Popular Automaker Is Looking Toward the Future
Honda is a latecomer to the game when it comes to all-electric vehicles, but the popular automaker is finally catching up.
The Honda Prologue Gets It Right
Some EV enthusiasts might remember Honda’s first attempt to break into the segment in 2017 when the Honda Clarity split into two distinct models, but most won’t. The Clarity EV was only available in California and Oregon, and it wasn’t anything to write home about.
The good news for future-facing drivers is that the 2024 Honda EV lineup gets right what the Clarity got wrong with the Prologue. Unlike the Clarity EV, which had a disappointing 89 miles of range, the brand-new electric SUV will provide a maximum driving range of around 300 miles.
The Prologue is also much bigger than the Clarity. This all-electric mid-size SUV is slightly shorter than most of the top contenders in its class, but it has plenty of space to accommodate just about any use.
Finally, the brand’s all-electric SUV provides plenty of power. Thanks to Honda’s partnership with GM, the Prologue shares a platform with the Chevy Equinox EV. The Equinox’s electric motor produces 210 HP and 243 lb-ft of torque, and the Prologue should do the same.
Hybrid EVs Are Still In at Honda
The Prologue may be the most exciting part of the 2024 Honda EV lineup, but that doesn’t mean the brand isn’t taking its commitment to sustainability seriously. The automaker also manufactures two hybrid EVs, both of which will be available in the coming model year.
The Accord Hybrid draws on the popularity of the automaker’s industry-leading mid-size family sedan but also features two electric motors to its 2.0L 4-cyl engine for a combined 51 mpg city and 48 mpg highway. After last year’s revisions, the 2024 hybrid Accord sticks with what works.
Honda’s other hybrid EV, the CR-V, was also redesigned just last year. The overhaul provided extra legroom and cargo space, a new infotainment center, and a smoother-operating powertrain. This hybrid 2024 Honda EV lineup leader gets an impressive 40 mpg highway, much better than other hybrid SUVs in its class.
Honda’s 2024 EV Lineup Is Just the Beginning
Honda’s introduction of the brand-new, all-electric Prologue SUV should be viewed as an auspicious start to a new era of EV production. The brand was admittedly slow to catch on, but this popular automaker has committed to manufacturing 30 electric-only models by 2030.
To be clear, not all of Honda’s anticipated new additions will be available in the United States. Here in the US, the company’s focus is on mid-to-large SUVs, while elsewhere in the world, mini-EVs are on the automaker’s radar.
Honda plans to phase out its internal combustion vehicle lines by 2040. They’re just acknowledging what everyone paying attention to industry trends already knows. The future of personal vehicles, no matter their size, is electric.
