Chrysler Airflow Concept Redesigned Days Ahead of New York Auto Show

Just days ahead of the New York International Auto Show, Chrysler has shared a tease for its Chrysler Airflow Concept EV by releasing a still photo gallery. The tease shows a redesigned vision from the original concept and has helped stir up more interest just in time for its full reveal at the Auto Show.

Chrysler Airflow Conceptualizes Brand’s EV Future

Parent company Stellanis hopes to help freshen up the brand’s EV offerings as they aim to shift to an all-electric vehicle brand by the year 2028. Walk into any Chrysler dealership today and you’ll see there’s plenty of room for improvement in this optimistic goal. Some might even say there’s a bit more of a way to go before their brand’s image and current offerings stack up to that of an electric vehicle brand. However, the release of the Airflow Concept tease gives the public a tangible vision of what Chrysler aims to achieve in the next couple of years.

So how has Chrysler reimagined the Airflow concept? well for starters, the tease gives no mention of any powertrain changes. It’s likely that the brand will continue using the same dual electric drive models that offer up the all-wheel-drive to the crossover and roughly 400 horsepower in output. The airflow will include Stellanis’ STLA SmartCockpit system which will offer unspoken standard electric vehicle features like autonomous driving and over the air (OTA) system updates.

The photo gallery does reveal changes through a reimagined front grill lighting element. The treatment looks very similar to the original concept design but this update features a more abstract and sleek construction. Gone is the outline of Chrysler’s wing badge, and instead, there appears to be a sleek chrome detail that really adds to the futuristic feel of the car. On the inside, the tease shows off that classic clean look synonymous with EVs largely made popular by trailblazers like Tesla.

What’s the Future For the Airflow Concept?

While the tease certainly gives off plenty of cool, futuristic vibes, enthusiasts of the brand’s direction with the Airflow may not want to hold their breath. In true EV fashion, this redesigned look may likely change again. The brand itself has shared that the latest concept is “one potential design path” for the Airflow. Some have read into this as potential body changes in the future while others hope this means the Airflow has a chance of going back to its original design.

As goes in the world of Silicon Valley and Technology as a whole, new releases of the latest gadgets only last so long before a newer model is reimagined and released in what feels like every other quarter. Well, there’s plenty of time between now and 2025, the Airflow concept will likely change yet again to match the current trends of the industry.
