The former CEO of FCA, Sergio Marchionne is the leader responsible for a lot of what we see on the market today from the FCA brands.
Marchionne was the CEO who oversaw the merging of Fiat and Chrysler together to bring the collection of brands together to form a strong balance of models that we want to drive. Some brands were certainly rescued under the leadership Marchionne was able to provide, and we thought it fitting to cover some of the models that wouldn’t have been offered without the man in charge.
The Legacy Models of Sergio Marchionne
Dodge Challenger Hellcat
Before this car arrived on the market, it was thought that we wouldn’t see horsepower coming from an American brand. Even though American muscle had made a return to the market, horsepower seemed to be reserved for German and Italian exotic brands. Pushing 707 horsepower out of the Hellcat engine in the Dodge Charger changed this. This car was made special by being offered as a mainstream model that could be enjoyed with incredible power instead of being out of reach for most buyers.
Alfa Romeo Stelvio
Not only was Marchionne responsible for the move toward an SUV for the Alfa Romeo brand, but he was also responsible for this brand returning to North America. First the 4C, then the Giulia, and final the Stelvio spelled the success for the Alfa Romeo brand. This amazing luxury SUV is built with the power needed and offers a strong 2.9-liter V6 engine with turbocharging in the Quadrifoglio trim. This engine pumps out 505 horsepower and 443 lb.-ft. of torque for the drive to give us the exciting SUV that can take over the market and be smooth elegance on the road.
Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio
As mentioned, Marchionne was responsible for the Giulia and the success in North America, but he was especially instrumental in the creation of the hot Quadrifoglio trim that brought in the massive power we want to admire. This trim used the same V6 engine as the Stelvio Quadrifoglio in order to give this elegant sedan the sporty feeling on the road. Those that choose the Giulia Quadrifoglio show a serious desire to take this car out on the track to be the car that can rip off fast laps and all this is thanks to the former CEO.
New Jeep Wrangler
Marchionne can’t be credited with the Wrangler entirely, this SUV has been around since the 1940s, but he can be credited with the movement toward a friendlierWrangler. The 2018 version of the Wrangler showed up with more creature comforts, a better drive, an additional powertrain, and the qualities that we admire in the Wrangler. This vehicle was able to keep the features and items that have made it a model that’s been around for a long time while making the move to a modern era of driving that we certainly desire and admire.
Ram 1500 Rebel
In a world that sees the Ford F-150 Raptor, Ram was lacking in this category, and there needed to be a change to offer a high-powered Ram that was more capable in the trails. With this need, the Ram Rebel was born and the power and features needed to get the job done were created to make sure we could have the fun and excitement desired out on the trails. Pretty soon, this truck will receive a Hellcat treatment, which will really be a legacy of the Marchionne era of FCA that we can admire.
Maserati Levante
There was a serious lack of excitement in the Maserati brand for a line time, but this has changed in recent years. The midsize sedan of the Ghibli was upgraded and improved and a new crossover SUV sprung into the lineup called the Levante to give us an exotic SUV to drive and experience on the road. This new SUV didn’t compromise any of the identity of the brand by being too bulky or too utilitarian, instead, it’s a sporty model that offers sleek styling and the high-quality features you expect from the Maserati brand.
Fiat 124 Spider
This car was created using the same platform as the Mazda Miata, but Fiat was able to add its own Italian flair to the car to give it the dynamics and the drive we wanted. This smooth and elegant car is one that brings the power and the active drive that we want to enjoy when it’s time to get out on the road. This is a car that allows us to know that Fiat isn’t just about the bubble-shaped tiny hatchbacks that are offered throughout the rest of the lineup and it certainly carries Marchionne’s signature on it to be a wonderful car to drive.
