Even though the Ford team has axed the Focus for the future, the heart of the performance Focus RS will live on. Ford has decided to take the powertrain from the Focus RS and put it in the new 2020 Ford Mustang that will be offered to give us the drive and the power we desire. This change will give us more power and more efficiency to ensure you can have the experience you’re looking for when you take the Mustang out for a drive and let it be the one that’s fun for you on the road.
The Heartbeat of the New Mustang
The previous base model of the Ford Mustang was the same size, but now it will have more power. The tuning from the Focus RS will carry over into the Mustang to give us a car that can offer 330 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque. This may be less than what the Focus RS offered, but it’s still more than what we had in the previous EcoBoost model of the Mustang. This level of power makes it possible for you to have the fun and the drive you want every day while enjoying an efficient sports car.
A Different Goal for the New Mustang
The team at Ford didn’t want a base Mustang that only looks good on paper, but they want to have a car that would deliver up to 90 percent of the power in a useable fashion. With this in mind, the Focus RS motor is able to give you this power at 6,500 rpm, which is a level you can use when you drive. Additionally, the team doesn’t want to trade any torque, in fact, their goal was to build torque along the drive up to the rpm level desired.
Adding a High-Performance Package
The new High-Performance Package that’s offered for the Mustang brings you more of everything. You’ll have a larger radiator, a bigger blower, a larger compressor wheel, and a bigger intercooler. These items are needed because the turbocharger of the previous Focus RS was much larger than what the Mustang offered and these items had to be improved to be able to handle the load offered of this new engine when it was placed under the hood. The result is a package that you can drive and have a lot more fun when you head out on the road.
The Right Equipment for More Speed
The difference you’ll find with the new High-Performance Package of the Mustang is that you can reach sixty mph in the mid-four-second range. This is faster than the base Mustang but slower than the GT, allowing this new package to be the one that splits the difference for you. Cars with this equipment are also going to be about 200 pounds lighter than those with an eight-cylinder engine under the hood to give you a lighter and more agile feeling when you get behind the wheel for a drive.
