Even though the small and active subcompact SUVs are the models that seem to sell better than any other on the market, the Hyundai SUV team is working on something massive.
With the recent showing of the Hyundai Kona, the hybrid Ioniq, and the Kia models that fill the same spots, this company may feel they have already cornered this part of the market. Instead of going smaller, as the rest of the competition is doing, Hyundai is ready to go bigger and bring in much larger SUVs for us to have an excellent drive.
The New Hyundai Palisade is Spied
While we don’t have the powertrain or specific details of what the newest large SUV will be from Hyundai, it has been spotted out on the roads testing its wares. Most of the vehicle was covered in camouflage to make it difficult for us to see what it will offer when it arrives, but what we do see gives us a hint at what to expect. Even though is mostly hidden, one aspect that can’t be hidden is the fact that this SUV is large enough to be the massive three-row model that we want to enjoy when it’s time for a drive.
The new Hyundai Palisade will likely share a platform with the new Kia Telluride and the two will probably go on sale around the same time. The expected timeframe right now is that we’ll see them at a show at the end of this year or early next year and both will make their sales debut as part of the 2020 model year. Not only will they likely share a platform, but engine technology will be shared as well as Hyundai works to develop the engine that can offer the right power level for this incredible and large vehicle.
What Do We Know?
In the spy photos that were taken, the front is more visible than it’s been in the past. This front end closely resembles the Santa Fe and Kona with the split headlight layout. The lower lights are large and impressive to give you the look that will shine the path you need at night. The front fascia also offers the “Cascade” grill, which has become a staple of the Hyundai brand and is seen on many models, such as the Tucson. This grill also features an upper slot which is a feature that we see in the Kona but is integrated better than in the smaller SUV.
As a large SUV that will play in the full-size market, the new Palisade is expected to be an affordable and exciting model to drive. In order to compete with some of the others in this class, this SUV will need to be able to tow a boat or handle the drive with relative ease. As we get closer to the release date, we’re going to learn more and understand if Hyundai has the right idea with this new large and imposing model. So far, they’re off to a great start and have certainly captured our attention.
